About Us

Wyntaissa Alpacas was established in 1999. Sue and Ted Collins came from Sydney to a quiet country life at trendy Tarago, 35km south of Goulburn, and thought “What will we breed?”. Sheep, Goats or Alpacas, yes, Alpacas, then asked for information on these lovely creatures and received an information package from the Australian Alpaca Association. We’ve since also become members of the newer Australasian Alpaca Breeders Association.

Wyntaissa Aussie DreamWe started with a small number, then bought a package of girls from Victoria and started attending shows and winning. Our herd number has steadily increased.

It has been a learning curve throughout, from being a hobbyist to a fully fledged alpaca breeder and fleece producer. Our aim is to breed ultrafine, dense alpacas, which we are achieving, in the Southern NSW region.

Supreme Champion, Alpaca Wool Crafts, 2004 Robertson ShowSpinning alpaca fleece and the feel of fine fibre between the fingers has now become an integral part of life, far removed from her former life of sitting in a busy office. It is another form of appreciation, learning about handle, style of crimp, and the varieties of fleece that are about. Sue has won various Championships for her spinning and knitting on a National and Regional level. In March 2004 at the Robertson Show, Sue was awarded Supreme Champion for both spinning and knitting in the Alpaca Wool Crafts Section. See also Fibres, Knitwear and Yarns.

We have a herd of approximately 125 Huacaya alpacas and including some Suris. Our stud males have come from bloodlines which include Purrumbete El Dorado, Jolimont Warrior, Jolimont Alessio, NWA Ltd Ruffo, Purrumbete Inti and Purrumbete Sweet Freedom, just to name a few. Our younger machos are showing excellent potential.

Our show record has been outstanding given the size of our herd. Selective breeding and quality purchases have enabled us to compete to a standard of excellence required to progress in the alpaca industry.

Our property has Q-Alpaca / MN1 status and we have sold stock to Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland, New Zealand and Europe.
